Alvin and Chipmunks 2nd PosterTwentieth Century Fox Movie, Starring Jason Lee, Opens December 14th
More goodies come out of the Alvin and the Chipmunks vault, with a second poster. The movie, which stars Jason Lee, opens December 14th.
There are animated films that whisks the audience away to a whole new plane of existence, movies which shower the viewer with images of wonder and delight, leaving that blessed individual breathless in awe that mere human beings could conjure such magic and ingenuity in this fatally flawed world of ours. And Then There's Alvin and the ChipmunksYou've seen enough of how much I think this movie is going to blow the big one come December 14th. You saw my thoughts on the limp trailer, and the disgust that the usually-censorious MPAA allowed an "eating-poop" joke be shown in a trailer for a family film. I don't need to repeat my shock and horror on how much the once-unassailable cool of Jason Lee has withered under the twin assaults of both this flick, and the debacle that was Underdog. Lee's career started with Mallrats and Chasing Amy, then went on to Almost Famous, The Incredibles, and My Name is Earl. And now he's throwing it away with this? But I'm not getting into all that again. I'm just going to show you the latest in Alvin and the Chipmunks promotion: the second poster, courtesy of the good folks at the International Poster Awards website. You can see the full-sized version over here. Okay, so I lied. My previous assessment of Alvin and the Chipmunks still stands: there's not a lot of imagination going on here. Yes, the chipmunks are still dressing like they had raided Run-DMC's 1980's-era wardrobe, and Theodore is flashing the "Peace" sign in the vain hope that it makes him look more 'street.' The Original EntourageThen there's the tagline for this flick: "The original entourage," which frankly makes about as much sense as Lindsay Lohan's current career path. The hit HBO show Entourage is about a bunch of hangers-on for a rising film star; this is a movie about an animated band of singing chipmunks. Is Fox hinting that Simon and Theodore are just tagging along for the ride, making their living off Alvin's genius? Could the marketing yokels at Twentieth Century Fox have possibly come up with a tagline that made the previous "Here comes trouble" look good? Alvin and the Chipmunks opens December 14th. My Name is Earl fans everywhere hope and pray that the show lasts a good long time so that Jason Lee can fire the agent who tells him to make movies like this, and get back to working with decent directors (Cameron Crowe, Kevin Smith) and get back into some decent movies again.
