Alvin, WALL-E One-SheetsPosters for Upcoming Twentieth Century Fox, Disney/Pixar Movies
Here are a couple of posters for Twentieth Century Fox's Alvin and the Chipmunks and Disney/Pixar's WALL-E.
A couple of of posters have surfaced on the Interweb. So what do they have in common? Well, they're both character-driven posters for animated films. One advertises the latest film from a studio that hasn't made a serious mistake yet, and the other . . . well, let's say the other flick has already staked its claim on movie history. Alvin and the Chipmunks International Poster "Mayhem" is the word that first springs to mind when first viewing this international one-sheet for Twentieth Century Fox's Alvin and the Chipmunks that the good folks at the International Movie Poster Awards managed to score (actually, I had another word in mind, but this is supposed to be a PG site). Alvin and his brothers are standing on head of Jason Lee (playing the Chipmunks' long-suffering manager David Seville) after having ravaged the kitchen. Simon (AKA the one wearing glasses) is looking particularly psychotic in this image. I'm sure this is supposed to be the image of family-oriented rock star excess, but after having read both Hammer of the Gods and Eric Clapton's autobiography, this gang's antics are pretty small change. Not to mention that, after causing all this mayhem, Alvin and the other chipmunks' hoodies are still suspiciously clean. The only questionable element in this image is the mysterious smears on Lee's forehead. Based on context (the spilled spaghetti and meat sauce in the background), it probably is fairly innocuous but if the scatalogical humour in the first trailer is any indication, be afraid, be very afraid. I'm not sure what Jason Lee's expression is supposed to signify, but I'm sure "Why the **** did I let my agent talk me into this piece of ****?" must figure into it somewhere. Alvin and the Chipmunks comes out on December 14th. WALL-E Character Poster It's rare to see so much publicity for a Pixar film that's over seven months away from its release date, but the Emeryville studio is pushing WALL-E hard, perhaps in an attempt to show the Mouse House's marketing department where it screwed up with Ratatouille. Enter this latest character poster, which puts the rolling garbage compactor front and center. As Mike Sampson at movie site JoBlo observed,"The Disney/Pixar marketing team seem to realize they've got a winning character in WALL-E and are trying to sell people on the lovable character . . . I'm confident that Pixar is confident in how good this movie is." Early reviews of this Andrew Stanton seem to bear this impression out, so it's safe to say that animation fans have another excellent Pixar film to look forward to when WALL-E opens on June 27th, 2008.
