George Clooney and Cate Blanchett are currently in negotiations over whether they will star in Wes Anderson's animated adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic children's story, The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Anderson, who is apparently going stop-motion animation with this flick, approached Clooney to play the title role. Blanchett is also in talks to play Mr. Fox's wife. If all the rumours are true, they may join Jason Schwartzman (Marie Antoinette) and Anjelica Huston (The Royal Tenenbaums) in the cast.
The film will be distributed by Twentieth Century Fox as a follow-up to 2008's Horton Hears a Who, another adaptation of another classic children's novel this time by Dr. Seuss.
The Fantastic Mr. Fox follows the titular character, who steals food from three mean farmers called Boggis, Bean and Bunce so he can feed his family. The farmers resort to ever more outrageous methods in their attempts to kill Mr. Fox.
Scott Rudin Productions is producing the flick. Anderson and Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale) wrote the script, adapting Dahl's 1970 novel for the screen.
Blanchett is currently nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award for her work on Richard Eyres' Notes on a Scandal.
