Disne/Pixar Up Final Trailer

Pete Docter, Bob Peterson Directs Film, Stars Ed Asner, Jordan Nagai

Check out the pants-wettingly funny trailer for Disney/Pixar's upcoming film Up. Pete Docter and Bob Peterson movie comes out May 27th.

For an animated movie lover, finding a Disney/Pixar trailer is the equivalent of finding out your parents are bringing home a puppy on Saturday afternoon. On the one hand, you're absolutely delirious with joy but you're also feverishly counting down the hours, minutes and seconds until you're saying 'Hello' to your new best friend.

The final trailer for Up, the new film from writer/directors Pete Docter and Bob Peterson (A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc.), feels exactly like this. It's clear that the duo are crafting one heck of an adventure comedy (Peterson also helped write Andrew Stanton's Finding Nemo) filled with some of the biggest animated laughs since . . . well . . . WALL-E.

Up Stars Ed Asner, Russell Nagai and Christopher Plummer

How many ways does this trailer rock?

Let's start with Wilderness Explorer Russell (Jordan Nagai) trying to force his assistance on retired balloon salesman Carl Fredericksen (Ed Asner) so the 8-year-old can earn his 'Helping the Elderly' merit badge. There's also a nice bit of business involving an electric chair lift that doesn't quite work as well as it should.

Of course there's that pivotal scene where Carl releases thousands of balloons, lifting his house into the air, complete with a rousing "So long boys! PPPTTTTTHHHH!" Even after repeated viewings, that sequence still brings the funny.

Speaking of puppy, don't forget the canine (Labrador Retriever perhaps?) with the high-tech collar around his neck: "Hi there. My name is Dug. My master made me this collar so that I may talk - SQUIRREL!!!! Hi there . . ."

This trailer is also significant because it also introduces the villain of the piece: an elderly explorer named Muntz (Christopher Plummer) who lives in an airborne zeppelin. He certainly doesn't appear as menacing as previous Pixar (or Disney) villains, but his horde of dogs certainly imply danger for our heroes.

There's also a large, brightly-coloured bird that may or may not be as brainless as it looks. Add some chase sequences (presumably because Muntz wants the brightly coloured bird, or maybe there's another McGuffin?) and other random bits of comedy and you have a film that may not rank with Pixar's best but certainly is a worthy addition to that studio's canon.

There's plenty more to discuss in this new trailer, but you should just click the link to check it out. You'll be glad you did.

If the film is any bit as good as everything so far has promised, Up will be a must-see when it opens on May 29th.

Fun Fact: SQUIRREL!!!!
