Yup, you read it here first. In my June 21st, blog, I categorically refused to see Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties when it originally came out in theatres because I didn't want to waste my time (and cash) on a movie I knew was going to stink.

Guess what? It appears I was right. Garfield only made a paltry $26 million in theatres and has since been nominated for two Razzie Awards. It's competing in a brand-new category, Worst Excuse for Family Entertainment, which "salutes the dearth of quality of G and PG-rated movie fare in 2006."

Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties is competing against instant family classics like Deck the Halls (Danny Devito, what were you thinking?), RV (Robin Williams' return to rehab didn't come too soon), Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause and The Shaggy Dog (put Zoom in there and you pretty much have every Tim Allen movie for 2006).

The kittie flick also gets a nod for Worst Sequel or Prequel, alongside Basic Instinct 2, Big Momma's House 2, Santa Clause 3 and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.

The Wayans Brothers bomb Little Man got called out for being a "blatant knockoff of a 1954 Bugs Bunny cartoon (Baby Buggy Bunny)" which led to its being nominated for the category Worst Remake/Ripoff, alongside Pink Panther, Poseidon, The Shaggy Dog and Wicker Man.

Cinema fan John Wilson founded the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation (GRAF) in 1980 to "honour" the worst in cinema. The awards will be handed out on Saturday, February 24th at 7:30 pm PST at Hollywood's Ivar Theatre. Should they choose to accept them, "winners" will receive a statue of a gold-painted, golfball-sized raspberry on top of a reel of Super 8 film. The Golden Razzie statue has an estimated street price of $4.97.
