Ghostbusters III goes CGI?

Dan Aykroyd touts Ghostbusters sequel as animated movie

Dan Aykroyd claims he wants to make Ghostbusters 3 a CGI movie, and he has Bill Murray on board. But is Hollywood really listening?

Sometimes it pays to hold off on a story. Computer issues killed Monday for me (my 7-year-old PC's going senile, methinks) but something didn't quite work for me when I heard that Dan Aykroyd was pushing Ghostbusters 3 as a CGI animated movie.

In an interview with country radio station CISN, Aykroyd claimed that a Ghostbusters sequel "lives." However, the former Elwood Blues said that “It will not happen as a live-action [movie], ’cause Billy [Murray] will not come on, in the live-action stage anymore for it. But he will voice his part, and we are looking to do it as a CGI animated project.”

Now this would be great news, except for the fact that Aykroyd has been touting a third Ghostbusters ever since the final credits rolled on 1989's Ghostbusters II. His idea? Apparently, Hell exists just one dimension away from our world, and Ray Stantz and the gang get back to crossing the streams when uglies start to go bump in the night. A little too close to Constantine (formerly Hellblazer), methinks.

To really close the coffin, there's no official news of any studio or animation house getting involved in this flick. So, as much as I'd love to see another Ghostbusters, I think this story is going next to the Loch Ness Monster, True Lies 2 or the 1958 Gibson Moderne in terms of plausibility.

Fun Fact: Ghostbusters II made $112,494,738 in U.S. theatres and another $60 million in rentals. The first Ghostbusters flick made $240 million in U.S. theatres, making it the most successful comedy of the 1980's.
