Happy Feet director George Miller has admitted that he's thinking about writing a sequel to the blockbuster movie.
"It's certainly now a real possibility," says Miller, who produced, directed and co-wrote the Warner Bros. animated film about a tap-dancing penguin.
"I don't know why, but there's a lot of stories banging around the back of my head and I've been able to download them into screenplays," the 61-year-old director says. "I think I've spent my whole life lost in my head and, to stay healthy, the ideas have to come out."
Miller is coy about what the first two movies will be, presumably because he doesn't want to get ripped off by a rival studio, but he is eyeing a sequel to another successful franchise he developed.
"There's about two or three films I want to do before we would ever embark on that (Happy Feet 2)," he says, "including another Mad Max sooner or later."
The live-action Mad Max, made in 1979 on a shoe-string budget, launched both his and Mel Gibson's careers in Australia. That movie spawned two successful sequels: 1981's The Road Warrior and 1985's Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. However, Miller has said that, despite starring in all three previous movies, Gibson probably won't be involved in a Mad Max 4.
Happy Feet has garnered over $350 million worldwide, and is one of three nominees for an Academy award for Best Animated Feature Film at the 79th Annual Oscars on February 25th. It's up against Disney/Pixar's Cars and Sony's Monster House.
