Here are a couple more images from Twentieth Century Fox/Blue Sky's upcoming movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Movie comes out in July of 2009.

It's only been seven days since Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Animation announced the subtitle of the latest film in their bajillion-selling Ice Age franchise, Dawn of the Dinosaurs. But the two studios are already hard at work priming the pump for this latest adventure, even though it's not due until the summer of 2009.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Official Website

Fox has already laid the groundwork for an official site for this movie. There's not much there to see, other than a couple of images of a T-Rex menacing our heroes, Manny (Ray Romano), Diego (Dennis Leary), Sid (John Leguizamo) and Scrat (Chris Wedge), in the gallery. The poster images also give Queen Latifah top billing, but it's not clear which animal is her character.

Could it be the T-Rex? This would be more than a little strange, since Latifah also voiced the role of Ellie, Manny's mammoth love interest in the 2nd Ice Age flick. Presumably that character returns, unless there have been some strange changes with the Ice Age storyline.

Right now, the synopsis only says, "Ice Age 3, to be fully produced in 3-D, is the latest installment to the hit Ice Age franchise, which has grossed more than $1.2 billion around the world."

This means that Ice Age will also join Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3 and DreamWorks Animation's Shrek Goes Fourth, the other major animation studios' tentpole franchises which will also receive the 3-D treatment. Toy Story 3 and Shrek Goes Fourth will go head-to-head in the summer of 2010 to determine which studio has the biggest CGI animated movie franchise.

However, Dawn of the Dinosaurs is getting the jump on those two movies, since it's coming out a year before. Its major 2009 competitors will be Disney/Pixar's Up and DreamWorks Animation's Monsters vs. Aliens, the latter will be DreamWorks' first 3-D animated film.

"Ice Age 3 will be directed by Oscar-nominated Carlos Saldanha, who directed Ice Age: The Meltdown and co-directed (the original) Ice Age. The film is being produced by the award-winning Blue Sky Studios, the creative force behind all the Ice Age films and the upcoming Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who."

When Is Dawn of the Dinosaurs Coming To Theatres?

There's also some question on when Dawn of the Dinosaurs is coming to theatres. According to IMDb, it's due on Canada Day, otherwise known as July 1, 2009. However, Fox says the sucker hits theatres on the much more American July 4th. Neither dates make a lot of sense, since July 1st is a Wednesday and the 4th is a Saturday.

Off-hand, Wednesday seems more likely, since movie releases are starting to creep earlier in the week, and Fox wants the flick in theatres for the July 4th holiday weekend.
