Check out the teaser poster for Igor, directed by Anthony Leondis and starring John Cusack, James Lipton, Steve Buscemi and John Cleese. Film opens September 19th.

A good poster goes a long way in selling a flick. At its best, it should catch the viewer's interest, offer some idea about what the movie's about without giving away the entire plot, and let the viewer know that this product will be a good time at the movies. With that in mind, check out the latest one-sheet for Exodus Film Group/The Weinstein Company's Igor, starring John Cusack and John Cleese.

Cinematical scored an exclusive look at the teaser poster and, to quote Erik Davis, it's "creepy, but oddly adorable." That's a pretty apt description of the boyish-looking hunchback, smiling to his audience while preparing to throw the switch and inflict another lurching creation on the world.

What's Igor About?

Here's the film's synopsis, courtesy of Exodus's web site:

"Igor is a playfully irreverent comedy that brings a new twist to the classic monster genre. In a world filled with Mad Scientists and Evil Inventions, one talented evil scientist's hunch-backed lab assistant has big dreams of becoming a Mad Scientist himself and winning the annual Evil Science Fair.

"The stellar voice cast includes Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Jennifer Coolidge, John Cusack, Arsenio Hall, Sean Hayes, Eddie Izzard, Jay Leno, Molly Shannon, and Christian Slater."

Inside the Actor’s Studio host James Lipton will also voice himself in the flick.

Will Igor Do Well In Theatres?

So far, so good with the poster. It definitely captures the horror/comedy vibe, although it would've been nice to see John Cleese's Dr. Glickenstein in there somewhere. This movie looks like it has some potential, despite the fact that famed Discworld author Terry Pratchett is likely having a quiet sit-down with his lawyers, wondering if he has grounds to sue.

This flick is the first collaboration between Exodus and The Weinstein Company, and they're hoping it won't be the last. They're already talking a possible Igor 2, plus several associated children's books with Simon & Schuster's children's publishing arm.

That's why it's especially worrying that Exodus and The Weinstein Company have dropped the flick into the post summer blockbuster "dump" period. There may be a couple of reasons for this. Certainly, The Weinstein Company knows they're not exactly in the same league as Pixar, DreamWorks or Fox/Blue Sky so it makes sense that they wouldn't want to have their flick directly competing with the likes of WALL-E or Kung Fu Panda.

A more worrying alternative is that The Weinstein Company knows this film will sink like a lead balloon, and are limiting the damage by dropping it in September.

So, will Igor make sparks at the box office, or will it fizzle? Find out when the flick opens September 19th.

Fun Fact: On January 23, 2008, the folks at MythBusters disproved the myth of the 'lead balloon,' successfully building and launching a miniature zeppelin made entirely out of lead.
