Nothing like a great trailer to wake up your day. And the trailer for DreamWorks Animation's upcoming Kung Fu Panda is a hoot.

The new trailer for DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda has come out, and it's wicked fun.

Instead of the previous gag-heavy teaser, this trailer shows a bit more of the flick's story. Yes, there are plenty of sight gags and goofy dialogue, but there are also scenes of Po (Jack Black) doing his kung fu training, including a scene where Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) tries another tactic in order to turn the lazy panda into a kung fu master.

However, there's no mention of why the diminutive martial arts teacher must turn Po into a kung fu fighter.

What Is Kung Fu Panda About?

The film's synopsis gives a clue (lifted from IMDb): "A CG-animated comedy about a lazy, irreverent slacker panda, Po (Voiced by Jack Black), who must somehow become a Kung Fu Master in order to save the Valley of Peace from a villainous snow leopard, Tai Lung (Ian McShane).

"Set in the legendary world of ancient China, this is the story of Po, our unlikely hero, who enters the rigid world of Kung Fu and turning it upside down. Po ultimately becomes a Kung Fu hero by learning that if he believes in himself, he can do anything."

The animation for the trailer is stunning, as is typical for DreamWorks Animation flicks. Not sure how the story will pan out; will just have to wait and see when the movie shows up at your favourite mondoplex on June 6th. But if the movie is two-thirds as fun as the trailer, then moviegoers should have a good time in cinemas.

Mark Osborne (Spongebob Squarepants Movie) and veteran Dreamorks animator John Stevenson (Madagascar) are directing this flick, from a script by (take a deep breath) Jonathan Aibel, Glenn Berger, Alessandro Carloni, Jed Diffenderfer, and Jennifer Yuh. That many writers is a sign of too many cooks in the soup Syndrome, but on the other hand, The Simpsons Movie had 11 writers and that flick didn't turn out too badly.

Joining Black, Hoffman and McShane in Kung Fu Panda is an all-star cast. Martial arts superstar Jackie Chan voices Master Monkey, Angelina Jolie voices Master Tigress, Seth Rogen voices Master Mantis, Lucy Liu is Master Viper, and David Cross is Master Crane.

You can check out the new trailer at the film's official site, or you can go Youtube-ing over here.

Kung Fu Panda hits theatres June 6th.

Fun Fact: Martial arts first appeared in China around the time of the Yellow Emperor, who ascended to the throne sometime around 2698 BC. He was a famous general who wrote various treatises on astrology, medicine and martial arts. He was believed to have developed the combat wrestling system called jaio di or "horn butting." The system eventually evolved into its current form, which is called shuai jiao or Chinese Wrestling.
