DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has announced its 2010 line-up of movies which, as per the studio's current corporate strategy, will feature one original flick, and one sequel.
However, the flicks are very similar in that they both spoof current movie genres: superhero comics and classic animated films.
DreamWorks Animation and Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films Produce Master Mind
The original flick from DreamWorks, released in the fall, will be a movie with the current placeholder title of Master Mind. As I mentioned before, the flick is a superhero send-up. It follows a super villain's (whose handle is also the title of the movie) crisis of conscience after he eliminates his heroic nemesis, Uberman.
Lara Breay and Denise Nolan Cascino from Red Hour Films, Ben Stiller's production company, will produce the flick, while Cameron Hood and Kyle Jefferson (First Flight) will share the director's chair.
"We all think the script is really smart and really funny," Stiller enthused in the original press release. "(DreamWorks Animation has) put the film on the fast track, which in animation terms means it will be coming out in the next 15 to 20 years.”
Given Stiller's hit record with live-action comedies like Zoolander and A Night at the Museum (let's not talk about The Heartbreak Kid, shall we?), it's not surprising that DreamWorks would put Master Mind on the even-faster track, getting it ready for the fall of 2010.
There is as yet no word on whether Ben Stiller will voice a role in this flick, but the actor has done voice work for DreamWorks before, most notably on 2005's Madagascar and the upcoming Madagascar: The Crate Escape, so don't be surprised if Stiller deals himself a leading voice role in Master Mind.
Shrek Goes Fourth in Latest for Movie Franchise
Katzenberg also announced the name of the next Shrek opus, the punningly titled Shrek Goes Fourth. There are as yet no details released about this flick but we can fill in a few on our own.
Much like the first three movies, Shrek Goes Fourth will feature our titular green ogre as he is forced to go on some kind of quest. There will be countless Disney Animation and pop-culture references throughout the flick, and Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Fiona), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots) will reprise their roles and make potloads of cash in the process.
Shrek Goes Fourth hits theatres on May 21, 2010, around the same time that Disney and Pixar release the latest installment of their film franchise, Toy Story 3. Which animated film will reign supreme? Stay tuned.
