The Jim Henson Company moved to quash Internet rumours that their upcoming flick Power of the Dark Crystal had been killed.

According to the Jim Henson Company, the Power of the Dark Crystal is still in production.
Last week, rumours were flying about the Interweb that the long-awaited sequel to the 1982 cult classic The Dark Crystal had been canned. The "rumour" was credible enough that both film ick and Dark Horizons both printed it as fact on their sites.
However, Greg James (webmaster of Muppet Newsflash) claimed the rumours were false, saying that, "Production is on track and the film is still planned for a Spring 2008 release." Furthermore, James claimed that he had gotten his information from no less a source than the Jim Henson Company's Head of Publicity and Head of Features.
James has now backed up that claim on his site, citing Lisa Henson, co-CEO of the Jim Henson Company and Power of the Dark Crystal's producer. Here is her official announcement:
"The Jim Henson Company remains committed to producing Power of the Dark Crystal. The film has not been 'cancelled' or 'put on hiatus' or any of the other rumored status changes that have been floating around. This film is an ambitious undertaking for us and it continues to move forward...We are grateful to the fans who support Power of the Dark Crystal and we are excited to make this new chapter in the Dark Crystal story a reality."
Barring any shocking revelations, I think we can safely call this rumour killed.
I'll be updating any news on Power of the Dark Crystal as it comes available. It hits theatres in the Spring of 2008, and will debut in Cannes in May of that year.
