Ratatouille, WALL-E, Horton Up For Kids BAFTATwo Pixar Films Competing For EA British Academy Children's AwardsOct 29, 2008 Dominic von Riedemann
Both Ratatouille and WALL-E, along with Horton Hears a Who, are competing for the Best Feature Film Award at 2008 EA British Academy Children's Awards.
Two Disney/Pixar films from completely different years are competing for this year's EA British Academy Children's Awards, also known as the Children's BAFTAs. Andrew Stanton's WALL-E, which was released this year, is up for the award. But so is Brad Bird's Ratatouille, which was released in 2007. They, along with 20th Century Fox's Horton Hears a Who and Paramount's Stardust, are nominated in the Best Feature Film category. WALL-E, Ratatouille Compete For Children's BAFTA What does this mean? Will the dreaded "vote split" come into effect, where voters can't decide which Pixar flick is better, leaving Horton to slide up the middle and claim the prize? On paper, WALL-E appears to be the stronger bet of the two Disney/Pixar flicks. It's the most beloved animated film on IMDb, beating out Hayao Miyazaki's classic Spirited Away. Ratatouille briefly held the top spot but has since slid to #4, below another Miyazaki film, 1997's Princess Mononoke. However, Ratatouille is (slightly) more beloved by film critics, pulling a 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, WALL-E isn't far behind with a 96% rating. Another 2007 flick up for this year's award is the only live-action contestant, the Matthew Vaughn-directed Stardust. That film has probably the most British pedigree of the 4 flicks nominated, since it was based on a book by British fantasy author Neil Gaiman and a mostly UK cast, which includes actors Sienna Miller, Mark Strong and Charlie Cox. Best Animation and Other CategoriesCompeting in the Best Animation category are Tiger Aspect's Charlie and Lola Autumn Special, Samka & Safari de Ville/CBBC's Eliot Kid, Aardman Animation's Shaun the Sheep, and Cake Entertainment's Skunk Fu!. Walt Disney Television's Phineas and Ferb is competing in the International Category, up against Nickelodeon's iCarly, Nick Jr.'s Lazytown, and The Magic Store/Wildbrain/RDF Kids/Nick Jr's Yo Gabba Gabba. There's also the Kids Vote Award, which asks British children to vote for their favourite TV shows, games and feature films. Ratatouille and WALL-E are also on the short list for the Feature Film category, along with DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda, and the partly animated films Alvin & The Chipmunks (Fox) and Enchanted (Disney). Phineas and Ferb and Shaun the Sheep are battling it out in the Kids Vote TV show category. The EA British Academy Children's Awards will take place on Sunday, November 30th. Fun Fact: The award for TV Show With the Funniest Title goes to the BBC children's sketch comedy program, Sorry, I've Got No Head.
