Two clips from the upcoming Shrek the Third have popped up online. I'm not sure if they're authorized or unauthorized, so check them ASAP out if you're interested. Or, if you prefer the surprise and anticipation, you can just hold off until DreamWorks Animation releases Shrek the Third into theatres May 18th.
The first clip is at Yahoo.com, which you can view along with the teaser and original theatrical trailer. The clip depicts the dying King Harold (voiced by John Cleese) attempting to give some important information to Shrek (Mike Myers). This news is, as we all know, that since Harold's shuffling off his mortal coil, this means Shrek will become the new king of Far, Far Away. As you might guess, our favourite ogre is none-too-happy about hearing this.
However, this clip neglects to mention what everyone out in Cyberland (Rent reference) already knows: that there is another . . . Fiona's shiftless cousin Artie (Cameron Diaz's former man-candy Justin Timberlake).
The second Shrek the Third clip is happening over at Blackfilm.com. This one expands on the hijinks in the theatrical trailer, where Donkey (Eddie Murphy), Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), and Donkey's brood of donkey-dragonlings (Donkgons? Dragkeys?) attempt to organize Shrek and Fiona's day. Much mayhem ensues, with stuff getting knocked over, things set on fire, and Donkey sees more of Shrek than he really wants to know.
The question remains: are these suckers DreamWorks-authorized leaks?
It's tough to say. I would argue 'yes.' DreamWorks Animation is gonna want to throw some Shrek tidbits our way, in order to compensate for that big promo Walt Disney Feature Animation and Pixar did last Tuesday with the 9-minute clip from Ratatouille. Ogre see, ogre do and all that. While we're at it, Yahoo isn't about to go pirate on us, since they're a huge corporation now and don't want to burn any corporate bridges (so to speak).
Blackfilm is another proposition. However, since these clips are pretty high quality and they're not really telling us anything we don't already know about the movie, it's safe to say that they're probably snuck out of the studio with Jeffrey Katzenberg and Company's blessing (or just a deliberate blind eye).
However, you might want to head on over to those websites and check out the clips before DreamWorks' horde of lawyers get all medieval on Yahoo and Blackfilm's . . . assets.
What's even less likely to be pirated is Animated News scoring 16 images from Shrek the Third. We get to see details of the Gingerbread Man's life story, Artie interacting with Merlin (Eric Idle), Artie interacting with Shrek, and Shrek interacting with . . . just about everybody. You can see the whole kit-and-kaboodle over here.
Did I mention Shrek the Third opens May 18th? Watch for my review on this space.
