Star Wars: The Clone Wars teasernew CGI animated series looks at events between Star Wars 2 and 3
Check out the teaser for George Lucas' Star Wars: The Clone Wars, coming to television in 2008.
(Source: www.starwars.com) As I've probably mentioned once or twice before, filmmaker George Lucas is taking his bajillion-selling Star Wars series back to television, and made it completely CGI. Okay, so the Star Wars movies were pretty much CGI, but with human actors playing their roles in front of green-screen. Now Lucas has completely ditched the humans, and made Star Wars: The Clone Wars an all-toon affair. Like the previous CGI series that ran from 2003 to 2005, this new The Clone War series (not the addition of 'The,' to differentiate it from its predecessor), there's a lot of shoot-'em-up, various blaster and lightsaber battles, starships exploding, and a yellow-eyed female Sith who wields a double-bladed lightsaber just like Darth Maul did in the first movie. There's also a lot more General Grievous, who was pretty much pointless in Revenge of the Sith. The story essentially shows what happened between the events in the live-action movies Star Wars Episode II: The Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Depending on what you thought of those two movies, this may or may not be a good thing. On the plus side, there's a lot of **** blowing up, which will always pull in the fanboys. The animation is pretty awesome for the backgrounds, and in the aforementioned **** blowing up. On the downside, the humans are looking a little weak. Considering the resources Lucas has to throw at this thing (how much money has the Star Wars series made for him?), I was surprised that Anakin, Padmé, Yoda, Mace and the gang didn't look a little better than this. It's also worth noting that the only actors from the live-action movies returning to voice characters in this new series are Anthony Daniels (C3PO), Frank Oz (Yoda) and Matthew Wood (Gen. Grievous). Not sure about Wood, but I do know that there would've been a massive outcry from fans if Daniels and Oz's voices were replaced. So yeah, no more Samuel L. Jackson, Ewan McGregor or (sniff) Natalie Portman. If you want to see the teaser on Star Wars.com, click over here. As watching it on that site was a royal pain in the you-know-what (not sure whether to blame my computer or the site), I ended up checking it out over on Youtube. Take your pick as to which works better for you. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is scheduled to make its TV debut sometime in 2008, or when Lucas finds himself a network. Fun Fact: George Lucas initially claimed that no characters from the original movies would appear in 2005's Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, other than a baby Luke and Leia. He later reneged on that statement, dropping Yoda, Darth Vader, Palpatine, Chewbacca, Grand Moff Tarkin, Mon Mothma, R2-D2, and C-3PO into the movie. All of these characters appeared in 1977's Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, 1980's Star Wars Episode V : The Empire Strikes Back, or 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
