Disney hands out five postcards promoting Andrew Stanton's next flick WALL-E. Bonus: BuyNLarge has a website.

Now that Ratatouille is out and underperforming in theatres, the Walt Disney Company and Pixar are turning their attention to their next flick, the robot comedy WALL-E. This movie is written and directed by Andrew Stanton, the guy who brought us 2003's Finding Nemo.

In order to raise this film’s profile, Disney distributed five postcards with images related to the movie. They spotlight the BuyNLarge Corporation, the bumbling conglomerate that built WALL-E, the robot who develops a soul.

Disney’s marketing department obviously had a lot of fun developing these cards, giving them a real “future looks like the 1940’s” vibe that reminds me of the ads in old magazines from the 50’s and 60’s.

Just to give you a run-down: the first postcard advertises the Waste Allocation Load Lifter – Earth Class (WALL-E) robots that BuyNLarge builds after humans turn Earth into a gigantic garbage dump.

“Kiss your waste worries good-bye with WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter – Earth Class),” says the ad copy. “Combining the latest in waste compaction technology with the quality and dependability of BNL, your trash will soon be a thing of the past!”

“Lounge in Luxury!” screams the next postcard. “The New BNL Hoverchair.”

(A little background is needed: in the year 2700, when WALL-E is set, humans have become giant, lazy blobs of fat who are unable to move without their hoverchairs).

“Getting around has never been easier with the Hoverchair from BNL,” the second postcard continues. “Improved mechanics, sleek design and first-class comfort that’s second to none. Kick your feet up and enjoy the ride! Available now! (walking poolside table not included).”

“M-O,” says the third. “The future of sanitation robotics. 100% sanitary.” I’m officially afraid to ask what role these robots play in the movie.

The fourth and fifth postcards advertise the BNL Axiom Executive Starliner and the BNL Autopilot (“Leave the flying to us!”). I believe there is an incident in WALL-E where a whole slew of these Axiom Starliners go AWOL, courtesy of the aforementioned Autopilot.

Website Kung Fu Rodeo scanned them and put them online for all to see. Click here if you want to see the full-sized versions of these postcards. WALL-E rolls into theatres on June 27, 2008.

Extra: As an added bonus, Disney and Pixar have put together a hilarious website for the fictitious BuyNLarge company which you can check out over here.

Gotta love the robotics section, which says that “our robots were designed from the ground up to do the tasks we as humans were never really meant to do – tasks such as lawn mowing, vacuuming, surgery, food preparation and political decision making.”

And the “corporate punk” story is frighteningly funny in that whole Neil Postman/Aldous Huxley sort of way.
